Script A/V Notes Storyboard Shot1 1.a 1.b 1.c Dr: Let's use an analogy. A computer, for example. In FND, If your brain is like a computer, the “hardware” of the brain is normal, but there are some problems with the “software.” Dr: researchers have been able to detect problems like these using advanced imaging. Show a desktop computer (screen, hard drive, keyboard, mouse, lit up and getting a certified “check mark.” Show a line of software coding with a communication error in red. fmri machine w/ stick figure, gender neutral patient, and zoom into the machine to show the brain Ex. fmri image Ex. fMRI imaging You can google images of fMRI to see inspiration of what they look like or use your own version of animation. Whatever you think looks best. Shot2 2.a 2.b 2.c Dr: There is an area called the Amygdala, which is involved in our response to a threatening situation. And it can even store memories associated w/ emotional events. In FND, the amygdala can be very sensitive and takes a long time to calm down after it’s been triggered. Light up the area of the brain that is the amygdala. Ex. image of amygdala inside the brain. You can also refer to the drawing from the FMD video Show person afraid of a tiger coming around the corner. And then storing that memory in a box in the brain, along w/ many other boxes. Just emphasize the amygdala area, perhaps make it pulsate and appear larger. Shot3 3.a 3.b Dr: In FND, there is also a strong association between the motor area and the amygdala, which means current or even past stress can be translated into body movements. Ex. of motor area and amygdala (or see the drawing from the FMD video) but AGAIN, don’t show the connecting lines bc there isn’t a direct connection. Maybe just show that the two areas light up the same color or something. To show association/correlation. Maybe show person with tiger again and this time their body shaking. Side by side with: show a box falling off the shelf (of stored emotional memories) and smoke seeping out that leads to the person’s body shaking. Shot4 4.a 4.b 4.c Dr: And lastly, there’s the frontal part of your brain, which helps with rational thinking and planning. This area’s job is also to calm down the amygdala after it’s been ramped up. However, with FND, the brain has trouble calming down, so this leads to unwanted movements. Ex. See PFC here or see FMD video drawing for frontal area. Frontal area lights up. Maybe show the amygdala on fire (not too dramatic) and the frontal area spraying a hose. Or if you can think of another way of showing it the frontal area calms down the amygdala. The front area hose is out of water and can’t put out the fire. (another example of the frontal area “being hijacked” has also been used). Shot5 5.a 5.b Dr: But with treatment all of these differences in the brain can improve. Treatments like psychotherapy, mindfulness, and medical hypnosis decrease the over activity of the amygdala and strengthen the frontal area. For some people, physical therapy can also be helpful by strengthening the circuit of normal movements in brain. Show words: Psychotherapy, mindfulness and medical hypnosis. Show amygdala stops pulsating and becomes normal size. Show frontal area beefs up. Show a physical therapist helping someone walk and the brain lighting up with green for go or a positive effect all over the brain.
